Day 31 : The other bands

  • Cat.1 : The Headbangers

[♪] Fans of guitar riffs ? Then you should keep an eye on Hawk Eyes. First known as Chickenhawk before finding out this name has been already used by another band, Hawk Eyes are able to play some heavy stuff. If you like zombies, you should watch this video, directed by Danny North and featuring some familiar faces. The new record is called IDEAS, it will be out on March 26th and you can buy it via PledgeMusic.

[♪] In the meantime, Pitchfork’s favourites Cloud Nothings have already released another record called Attack On Memory. Lo-fi indie rock from Cleveland, as Wikipedia says.

[♪] Oh, and let’s not forget Blood Red Shoes, who announced the release of a new record last week. In Time To Voices will be out on March 26th and it’s already huge.

  • Cat. 2 : The Theydontneedmysupport

Lana Del Rey is translated as “Laine Du Roi” in French. I thought everyone should know about this before listening to her music. First praised by the music industry, she is now criticized because of the “marketing” aspect of her music. Music journalists : you told everyone to listen to her because it was “the trending thing to do” and now you’re telling us it’s crap because she’s overrated? You hipsters.

  • Cat. 3 : The BecauseNMElikesthem

Islet, Zulu Winter, 2:54 (hello Hayden Thorpe), Icona Pop, FRIENDS and Citizens are names we saw everywhere on blogs and magazines recently. You think they all sound the same but you listen to them anyway because you’ve been told to. I think their live performances will tell you if these bands are worth the number of posts that has been written about them. Wait & see…

  • Cat. 4 : The Comeback

Remember the times when Brit-pop wasn’t just Coldplay? Well, it was almost ten years ago, and we liked this kind of music because that’s all the UK had to offer. So yes, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Maxïmo Park and Klaxons are back. It’s 2005 all over again guys, aren’t you happy about it ?

  • Cat. 5 : The DIY

[♪] Mi Mye self released their new record a few days ago. It’s a name-your-price one.

  • Cat 6 : The young ones

[♪] First named Blood Oranges, Shark Teeth are a bunch of young people making fruity music. Their first record has been produced by Whiskas (Forward Russia, Honour Before Glory). They’re in good hands.

  • Cat 7 : The Melodymakers

A few days ago, I was excited about Grizzly Bear’s comeback. But little did I know that Local Natives had also planned to released another record sometime this year. I can’t wait to see Taylor Rice & co. all over again.

[♪] Julie Ann hasn’t stopped working since I saw her live. Her touching voice and her innocent face makes you fall in love with Sea Of Bees. Just picture her playing with a teddy cat. Orangefarben is out this spring.
